Tanking
The footprint of a building must be protected from ground water seeping up into the fabric of the structure. For simple buildings, this footprint can be protected by fitting a damp proof membrane across the slab of the building, which is then connected to a damp proof course installed within the walls.
Used in conjunction with Hyload DPC, this system effectively creates a waterproof barrier beneath the living space of any building.
When moisture is present within the ground some soil types do not provide particularly good drainage. As almost all buildings sit on foundations within the soil, there is a danger that this moisture will saturate the structure below ground level and cause damage to the building.
Tanking a structure ensures that there is a complete and continuous sealed membrane across the floor slab area and which travels vertically up the
external masonry, achieving a water protective envelope.
